Privacy Policy

Friends of the Number Nine Schoolhouse, Inc. (“FNNS,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a Vermont 501(c)(3) nonprofit working to restore the historic 1903 Number Nine Schoolhouse for the Mad River Valley community. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through numbernineschoolhouse.org, how we use it, and the choices available to you. It applies to this website only.

Last updated: July 2026

Information You Provide to Us

When you reach out to us, we collect only what you choose to share:

  • Contact form. Our Contact page asks for your name, email address, subject, and message. This information is used to respond to your inquiry and is not automatically added to any mailing list.
  • Mail and phone. If you write, call, or mail a check to us, we keep the information you provide (such as your name and mailing address) for record-keeping, donor acknowledgment, and to respond to you.

Information Collected Through Online Giving

Gifts made through the “Donate” button on our Donate page are processed through BetterWorld.org, an independent giving platform. When you give online, BetterWorld.org collects your payment and billing details directly; FNNS does not see or store your full card or bank information. BetterWorld.org shares your name, contact information, and gift amount and designation with us so that we can issue a tax receipt and thank you for your gift. Your online gift is also subject to BetterWorld.org’s own privacy policy, which we encourage you to review.

Information Collected Automatically

Like most websites, ours collects some technical information automatically as you browse:

  • Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our website — for example, which pages are viewed, how long visitors stay, and what site referred you here. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as your approximate location (from your IP address), browser, and device type. This information is aggregated and is not used to identify you personally. You can learn more, or opt out, at Google’s Privacy Policy and via the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
  • Spam and bot protection. Our contact form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to confirm that a form submission is coming from a real visitor rather than automated software. Turnstile may process limited technical information, such as your IP address and browser characteristics, as part of that check. See Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy for details.

How We Use Information

We use the information described above to:

  • Respond to your questions and messages;
  • Process and acknowledge donations, including issuing tax receipts;
  • Understand how our website is used so we can improve it; and
  • Comply with legal obligations and protect against fraud, abuse, or misuse of our website.

Sharing of Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only:

  • With service providers who help us operate this website or process donations — currently Google (analytics), BetterWorld.org (donation processing), Cloudflare (spam and security protection), and our website host — solely so they can provide those services to us;
  • If we believe disclosure is necessary to comply with the law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of FNNS, our visitors, or others.

Cookies

A cookie is a small file stored by your browser. Our website uses cookies placed by Google Analytics and, when the contact form is in use, by Cloudflare Turnstile. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies through their settings; if you do, some parts of the site (such as the contact form) may not work properly.

Children’s Privacy

Our website is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Your Choices

You may ask us to stop contacting you, or to correct or delete information we hold about you, at any time by contacting us. You can also control cookies through your browser settings, as described above.

Data Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect the information we hold from loss, misuse, or unauthorized access. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a revised “Last updated” date.
